Palm Beach and Miami: The Season, the Clubs and What to Skip

In short : In Palm Beach and Miami, go for something specific rather than for the scene: a lecture at the Society of the Four Arts, Sunday polo at the International Polo Club in Wellington, the Winter Equestrian Festival, Art Basel Miami Beach in December, or crew at the Coconut Grove yacht clubs. Palm Beach is for January to March, midweek; Miami for December to April.

Where the money comes from

Palm Beach holds established fortunes and many retirees, on an island where the old clubs work by proposal and the season runs from Thanksgiving to Easter. Across the bridge, West Palm Beach has drawn finance firms south since 2020, and Wellington is the world of horses and polo. Miami’s money is different: real estate, international capital and crypto, from Coral Gables and Key Biscayne to the islands of Miami Beach, with Brickell for finance.

Both places attract enormous attention. On our own grid, Palm Beach has the worst density-to-competition ratio there is, and Miami a high share of wealth that is claimed rather than proven: it is the national capital of wealth on display. Neither is a place to build a strategy. You go because you live there, for an event, for a sport, or because you have been invited, and you keep a clear eye on what is shown and what is real.

When to go

The Palm Beach season runs from Thanksgiving to Easter, with its peak from January to March: the balls, The Breakers, Worth Avenue, and in Wellington the Winter Equestrian Festival and Sunday polo. Go midweek, and go for something: a lecture at the Four Arts, a polo afternoon, a committee. Miami is at its best from December, with Art Basel, to April. From June to September, both are hot and empty. In Miami, the stone crab season, from October to May, sets the rhythm at Joe’s, and the Coconut Grove yacht clubs, with their crew lists and regattas, are the realistic door the rest of the time.

Mistakes to avoid
  • LIV, E11EVEN, Ocean Drive and the yacht party: the Miami people photograph, not the one people live in.
  • Moving to Miami to meet someone, without a job or a life there. It rarely works.
  • Taking displayed wealth at face value. Miami has the highest share of claimed rather than proven wealth; verify before you trust.
  • Doing Art Basel through its satellite parties, or the Grand Prix from the grandstand: lines, barriers, and no repetition.
  • Making Palm Beach a strategy. It has the worst ratio there is; come for an event, a sport or an invitation.

How to go about it

Residents and visitors need different plans. If you live in South Florida, take two standing appointments: the Four Arts lectures on the island during the season, and a crew list at the Coral Reef or Biscayne Bay yacht club in Coconut Grove, kept up for three months. If you are visiting, give the trip one purpose, Sunday polo in Wellington, a weekday at the Art Basel fair, or a midweek stay in season, and arrange everything around it. In either case, note who you meet twice, and look closely at displayed wealth before trusting it. This list was drawn up in 2026: verify each address in advance and never name a place without checking it first.

In the program

In The Fortuna Method, Module 8 goes further: the complete, dated lists for each city, the summer and winter resorts in detail, and an exercise to choose your two addresses and the day you will keep going back to them.

Frequently asked questions

Where do rich men hang out in Palm Beach?

In season, at the island’s clubs, the Everglades, the Bath and Tennis, The Beach Club and the Sailfish, which are by proposal; at tables such as Café L’Europe, Ta-boó and Swifty’s; at The Breakers; and in Wellington, at polo and the Winter Equestrian Festival. The Society of the Four Arts, open to all, is the most underused door on the island.

Is Miami a good place to meet a wealthy man?

It is a good place to see wealth, which is not the same thing. Miami has the country’s most visible display of money and a high share of wealth that is claimed rather than proven. If you go, go between December and April for something specific: Art Basel, a museum program, a yacht club in Coconut Grove. Verify before you trust.

When is the Palm Beach season?

From Thanksgiving to Easter, with its peak from January to March: the charity balls, The Breakers, Worth Avenue, and in Wellington the Winter Equestrian Festival and Sunday polo. Midweek is better than the weekend. From June to September, the island is hot and largely empty, and most of its residents are elsewhere.

How do you meet people at Art Basel Miami Beach?

At the fair rather than at the parties. Go on a weekday, take your time at a few booths, and ask the dealers real questions: that is how conversations and invitations begin. The satellite parties are crowded and leave nothing behind. Arriving informed, with the exhibitor list read beforehand, makes those conversations easy.

Should you move to Palm Beach to meet a wealthy man?

Rarely. Palm Beach has a remarkable concentration of established fortunes and the most intense competition anywhere, and its clubs work by proposal and move slowly. If you can move, cities such as Dallas or Greenwich offer comparable density with far less competition. Palm Beach works best as a destination for an event, a sport or an invitation.
